BADO Sohra
Name of the Scheme: C.C. Footsteps at Mawpait at Pyndemdkhar.
Amount Sanctioned: Rs. 5.00 lacs
Years of Schemes: SCA(BADP)2015-16.
Pyndemdkhar is inaccessible by road. The village lies in a difficult and steep ravine. To reach the said village one has to trek through narrow, small and steep footsteps and railings which are very old and dilapidated. On both sides of the footsteps, there lie sheer drop precipices which make trekking not easy. Hence such venture through the said route is difficult and also involves risk. One of the risky and difficult points is at Mawpait. Here, there is a huge and sheer rock and commuting is done through footsteps attached to it. However, the existing footsteps were no more safe to use as they were already worn out. The village council approached the office of the Border Areas Development Officer, Sohra for financial aid. The village council was relieved of this problem when the department granted financial assistance for the construction of the new footsteps (footbridge incl. footsteps) in place of the existing old ones. The construction work was carried out by the village council itself and it is worth mentioning here that the scheme had given them employment opportunity during construction. The work was satisfactorily completed and the said infrastructure serves as a great asset to the villagers.
Name of the Scheme: Footbridge over Wahtyngseng (20mt) at Mawsiangei
Amount Sanctioned: Rs. 10.00 lacs
Years of Schemes: SCA (BADP) 2015-16
Wahtyngseng is a stream near Mawsiangei village and a good portion of cultivation works takes place on the other side of this stream. The water level of this stream rises to the brim during monsoon and often flows with torrential current which makes crossing to the other side not possible. This has caused hardship and inconvenience on the part of the poor cultivators of the village who have fields on the other side of the stream. There are a couple of points along the stream where bridges are to be built in order to ensure free movement of the cultivators across the same in all the seasons of the year.
The need for the infrastructure(footbridge) was addressed to the office of the BADO, Sohra and with the amount sanctioned by the department, the footbridge was duly constructed at one point across the Wahtyngseng stream. This footbridge so constructed and being used will have a long term impact on the economy of the section of the villagers. This is one of the gestures which remind the border people that the Government cares for them
Name of the Scheme: Footbridge over Umswiah at Ichamati.
Amount Sanctioned: Rs. 5.50 lacs
Years of Schemes: SCA (BADP) 2015-16
Umswiah and Khahumrin are two habitations (hamlets) at Ichamati village of Mawlong Sirdarship, Mawlong. Umswiah stream runs in between the two hamlets and this makes it difficult for the people including women and children of these two hamlets to commute especially during monsoon. The department extended financial assistance for the construction of footbridge over this stream and now, with the completion of the project, this particular connectivity problem faced by the people is solved.
Name of the Scheme: Approach Road from Mawtjuh towards Nongbah Mawshuit
Amount Sanctioned: Rs. 18.844 lacs
Years of Schemes: SCA (BADP) 2015-16
Khadarshnong area of Sohra block is lacking in many of the infrastructural setups. Many villages are still not accessible by road and they really have been dreaming of it. In the absence of road infrastructure, these villages face all kinds of socio-economic hardships right from conveying the sick to the nearest health centre to the transportation of goods. The office of the Border Areas Development, Sohra has taken its humble initiative towards helping the above cluster of villages see the light of day in this connection at least upto Nongbah Mawshuit. Schemes were sanctioned in two phases viz ₹8.844 lakh and ₹10.00 lakh during 2015-16 and 2016-17 respectively. Out of these first two phases, i.e a total of ₹18.844 lakh, the village could construct a length of 800M and a distance of around 3 KM is still to be covered i.e. upto Nongbah Mawshuit. During 2017-18, ₹5.00 lakh was proposed for the extension of the same.
Though we could achieve only a couple of metres distance but it is heartening to learn that those villagers who have their fields along the stretch of this road have been utilizing it in the transportation of their horticultural products. However the road will be of little benefit if it does not reach at least upto the main targeted village.
