Creation of the Department
The Border Areas Development Department was created in 1973 with a view to exclusively look after the implementation of various integrated schemes and developmental activities under the Border Areas Development Programme, coordinating with the different development Department under this Programme and formulating the plans and programmes, especially relevant to the border areas of the state. The Directorate of Border Areas Development was established in 1975 to gear up the organizational set up with a full fledged Director and a skeleton staff and the District level officers, namely, the Border Areas Development Officer who had been appointed and posted at various head quarters in the border areas of the State to look after the needs and requirements of the people living under their respective jurisdiction.
During 1997 - 98, the technical wing was created in the Border Areas Development Department.
